Although this isn't directly answering the question you asked, please allow
me to add my 2 cents.

Upgrade from version 7 to version 10. Version 10 has so many advanced
features and is capable of making better music than version 7.

Realism ?

John Birchall <jpb2@...>

Hi Folks,
I use BiaB for backing tracks for jazz practice and rehearsal ...
Realism (not bum notes!) is a great quality which helps me to play
better...
My question, why is BiaB better, more realistic, than other midi software
I have heard which tend to sound 'mechanical'?
For starters I assume -
1. it can play nicely behind the beat with a good triplet swing resolution
2. it regenerates the patterns on the tracks on each play giving variety
3. version 10 has 'more realistic' guitar voicings which follow real
fretboard finger shapes ... I'm not sure I can 'hear' the specific
difference but 'something' makes the 'Freddie Green' style on disk 25
great?

Anything else?
Are timings regenerated on each playback as well as patterns?

I suppose I'm asking for some detail on how the PG engine works ...
it might make me better if I know what's going on ... :-)

First off, I would recommend that you upgrade to version 10, because
version 8 added some special new features with the drums (more realistic
sounding), and if you did that you could upgrade to the megapak which
includes ALL styles disks and ALL soloist disks. And since you are
already talking about spending $60 for the two soloist disks, it would
be worth it to get ALL the extra stuff.

With that said, if you choose not to upgrade, you definitely should get
those two soloist disks. The stuff that came built-in with version 7
was sort of a tease to show us what might be possible, but it needed
greater resources to really do great work. The soloist disks have
"large" soloist files, which means there is more information for the
program to work with in creating solos.

You will definitely like the results with the soloist disks far better
than what version 7 creates on its own.

Enjoy!

Re: Jgsolos - New upload to files section

DPRICE8292@...

Hi Everyone,
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Jgsolos subdirectory in
BIAB, Most of these demo songs have the actual chord progresions for
some of the great jazz standards. PGMusic can not provide the melody
for copy right reasons. They've also renamed the styles.
These are the same songs that are in PG's Master Jazz Guitar Solos.
With a little effort on your part, You can edit these demo songs and
turn them back into the original jazz standards. A list is now
available in the Files section.

For example:I used GS012 CHANSON and edited it back to Ipanema.
1st:I used L_BOSMED.STY (which is the same as the GS051.STY)
2nd:I swapped the Melody and Soloist tracks
(the demo melody becomes the counter melody)(kinda cool, huh?)
3rd:I changed the Soloist Instrument (I used Acc Grand Piano)
4th:I entered the Melody notes for Ipanema

I have uploaded Ipanema.zip to the DavesSeq section of the files
directory. You should be able to do the other songs in Jgsolos using
a similar technique.

Enjoy,

I'd do that by exporting a MIDI file and editing there. I think BiaB
re-writes all the accompaniment parts every time.

Re: Saving piano/bass/drum parts?

Janice McDonald <janice21475@...>

Hello Heath,

You didn't mention why you wanted to step edit the
parts. If it is to correct misleading tones and tune
up your song why not use a Finetuned style to begin
with? There is no need to edit songs made using our
styles to correct anything.

We are having a March Madness sale now and there is a
tremendous savings to be had. Each style is
demonstrated so you can hear exactly what you will
get. All the demo's were done entirely in BIAB and
straight to MIDI. No editing at all.

Hope this helps,
Chuck and Janice are Finetuned

Save the song as a midi file, then edit it in a sequencer program such
as Cakewalk or PowerTracksPro.

Since the main use of BiaB is to create the parts in the first place, it
really isn't designed to serve as a sequencer program to let you step
edit the created parts. And once you have an arrangement you like, you
don't need BB anymore for that song, so saving it as a midi file and
moving to an application which allows easier editing is a wise thing to
do, to save aggravation.

Can anyone recommend a good style to use for the tune "St.

J_CARIBE, SALSA_3 or RHUMBA_G are worth trying
