No. Realtracks are musical phrases played by real musicians, and BiaB arranges/transposes/time shifts them to provide a backing track for a song - rhythms and solos. But you can't tell them what melody to play. You can do that with MIDI tracks, but you sacrifice the realism unless you have really good MIDI instruments and spend time on editing the phrasing, etc.

I don’t believe that’s possible.  However you can directly record your own Melody track as an audio track.

You can also, create your own “user tracks”, which are like your own custom “Real Tracks”, to use just like regular “Real Tracks”.  Hayward

Subject: [Band-In-A-Box] melody line to realtrack

This might be a silly question, I have just purchased a copy of 2021 band in a box/realband
Is it possible to put my own melody line onto a realtrack?

While it is easy to get a basic backing track going,,band in a box can do a lot more than that and a lot more than software alternatives similar to Band in a Box, such as iReal Pro.

In this tutorial, you will have a look at some of the ways I use Band in a Box for jazz guitar practice, starting with a review of the basics.

I just discovered that Garrigus is on Facebook now and is an active participant in the Cakewalk/Bandlab group. It looks like he is using his FB homepage much like he use his Digifreq news group. You can follow him on FB through his "Follow" button.

On my installation, there's a C:\bb\RealTracks\Data folder that contains 3 folders with RealDrum, Style, and HiQ Demos. So I would assume those should not have WMA files replaced/removed. The "Styles Demos Audio has over 10,000 files. There is a file icon on the Stylesheet player control that does mention downloading a file if it's an URL or showing the file if it's already on the local file system.

That's very curious because I thought the preview files were either .wav
or .mp3 files that got downloaded each time we click "preview" in the
style picker.

Oh well, at least according to other posts on this subject you can put
the .wma files back in the same folder with the .wav files and trust
that biab is using the .wav files when it compiles your song files.

True, and not "out of school" at all, but if a person is trying to share something with the whole group, the only way to do that is to upload them to the files section.

Never. Not since it went to download only. Before that I bought from local distributer so would have had to.

All attachments are stripped from messages to the BIAB group, so if you
have anything to share with the group you need to upload them to the
appropriate folder at the BIAB page  at groups.io and then post a
message about what you uploaded and if possible include a link to the
folder where you uploaded them.

The Conductor

IAN GRAHAM

Hallo, all

I am trying for the first time to use The Conductor. I don't remember
seeing it discussed here before. Maybe it is one of those 'clever'
features that is very little used ?

Anyway, I am actually failing to make it work at all ! I have attempted
to set it to QWERTY  input 'T' - 'go to next part marker'. In the
Conductor window I have ticked  'Enable control by QWERTY keys' and
enabled the button 'Next Part Marker'. If I set a song running, and then
press T, I get a pop-up box message  'Mode is changed to to Next Part
Marker' , but there's absolutely no effect on playback.

If I could get it to work, I would then go on to try to set a Midi
Keyboard key as input, but one step at a time.

What I'm actually trying to experiment with is, not playback of an
entire arrangement, but setting up a drums-only 'song', which I could
use as accompaniment to exploratory live play around specific material;
and I hope(d) the 'go to next part marker' might be a way of inserting a
drum kick at will.

If anyone is familiar with the feature and can suggest what else I need
to do, I'd be grateful to hear. ( I am NOT asking you, David, to
undertake new research on my behalf ! )

Sincerely

Ian G

David wrote: "What I don't understand is why the .wma files are included with all the .wav files in the audiophile edition "

I think the reason is the .wma files are standard, the audiophile .wav files are "add-on", so you get the whole pile when you go audiophile. There was a post on the PG Music forum recently about this, and the answer there was that the program looks for the audiophile versions first and uses them if they are there, if you point to an external drive for the realtracks and it is the audiophile drive you definitely get those every time. I have BIAB on 2 different computers, one is tied to the audiophile drive and I use that in my recordings. The other computer, I just use occasionally for trying stuff out etc. Doesn't need that quality file for that.

My understanding is BIAB uses the audiophile WAV tracks if they are there, they are prioritized. You should have them on the external drive provided by PG Music, and should have the program pointing there in the Realtracks and Realdrums option selections. You choose another location for the files there in preferences. Instead of C:\bb or where you installed the BB program. In my case I select, for example, F:\bb\realtracks or wherever the audiophile tracks reside.

Yeah, we said that. They updated 2020 but those of us on other versions including 2019 are stuck unless we pay to upgrade.

Has anyone paid import duty or vat on the download version of band in a box.
From eBay or of music?

Pardon the self-serving commercial plug, but you can get BiaB country tracks here:

The price is reasonable, as little as 7 cents per song.
