Re: Problem with sound

On a related issue, sometimes when I choose a MIDI style, the drum track is sent to my computer speakers, and the rest of the tracks are sent to my attached MIDI keyboard.  And what's worse, the drum track is ahead of the MIDI tracks.  I have to mute the drum track to be able to use it at all.  On example is ZZBLUSTR.STY. Blues Straight Style.

Any ideas what is going on?

everything else muted but I can't find it. Any help or suggestions would

I get drums only when I play some midi styles without the midi keyboard available to BIAB.  I have no idea why those styles send the drum track to a different output.

That would kind of work, but not really. Because the file formats are incompatible, you would have to use a file type they can deal with in common as the transfer and then the assigning of chords is not a process with only one answer.  Probably you would have to correct the chords.  And after all the work to get to that point then you have to pick out a corresponding style.  Try going from a midi file to a BiaB song sometimes. Unless you use a null style with everything in the multi-part melody, it's not as easy as it looks.

Not automatically -- you'd have to enter each song chord by chord. The
file formats are not compatible. But many of the 1300 songs are in the
two Band-In-A-Box-Files groups already so you might want to check there.

It doesn't treat the "hold chord" the same as "rest" -- I just ran an
experiment where I first told BIAB to hold a chord, then I readjusted it
to put a rest on that chord.

With "hold chord" that style provides a very short hold (way too short
in my opinion).  With "rest" that style provides total silence for that
chord (as it should).

I can't see any way to change that peculiar behavior of not really
holding a chord when told to hold it.

Yeah, I think that's one of the cases where freezing it and then editing it is the way to go.

Re: _CROONR1.STY question

Mel <quiprosen@...>

Thanks, David. You're' right about "very short hold".  What I should have said was "shot". Either way, it's not what I wanted.

My intent is to use a longish hold as the finale. Workaround: I'm going to create a song with only the ending chords I want at very slow tempo. I'll copy the chords many times to give a good chance of getting what I want, then I'll generate the horns. In theory one of those sequences should be satisfactory. Then I can splice it in with RealBand or Audacity.

You can not use any notation software as a third-party plug-in with BIAB.

What you can do is to use notation software (MuseScore is free but if
you already own Finale or Sibelius you can use either of those) to enter
the melody and print it out, then save as a MIDI file and import that
MIDI file into the melody track in BIAB.

I just installed the latest version of Flash and have had no problems with BIAB 2017 (467). You might consider going to PGMusic's web-site and downloading and running the latest update for BIAB 2016 (if it's still available there.)

Is BIAB even supported anymore on Win7 machines? That would be something to check out at pgmusic as well.

Let us know how it works out for you.

If it was me, I'd remove FLASH, clean out the registry, reboot and then see if BIAB will run.
Then re-install FLASH if BIAB runs.
After re-install if BIAB doesn't run, the logic would be it is caused by FLASH.

As I recall, Adobe is going to let FLASH die soon....like next year.

soundcloud is for posting audio files. BIAB files (the kind that have instructions for BIAB to use to recreate the song) are not audio files.

People are asking about song files that they can download, open in BIAB and then edit them to fit their performing or practice situations (change tempo, change key, change number of choruses, etc.)

My impression is that SongCloud.com (probably intended to say SOUNDCLOUD.COM) is for digital MUSIC and BIAB songs are not digital music format as they have been posted in this/these Yahoo groups.   Chances are that if you did post BIAB-format-songs, the poster would get a lot of "push-back" from people who clicked on a song and it would do anything because they didn't have a copy of BIAB running on their local device.

People are supposed to post to this main group when they upload song
files and it's been a long long time since anybody's done that.

If you're looking at the two Band-In-A-Box-Files groups, those won't
change at all until or unless we get someone as dedicated as Afoklala
was -- JanWillem (his real name) used to spend time each week taking the
songs which had been uploaded into the main group's Files section and
then adding them to the appropriate zip file in the appropriate Files
group (one has songs with melodies and the other group only has songs
without melodies). Then he would would delete them from the Files
section of the main group so that we would always have room for more files.

But he retired from doing that, probably about 2009 although I can't
remember exactly, and nobody offered to step into the breach and take
over that task.
