What you have to do is to change the file type and file creator of those PC style files that Band in Box
can't "see".

It's very easy to change the file type and creator by using programmes ( applications ) such as

FileBuddy or Snitch ( Mac programmes ). There are many other similar drag/drop single purpose

applications. If you want one let me know here.

What you will have to do the first time around is by using for example FileBuddy " read " what the file
type/creater is for a file that Band in a Box can "see" and after that you can change the files that B in a
B can't see.

Believe me it's very simple to do.

One good reason for making you join before you can participate, is to keep
the spammers and other "outsiders" out of the group.

You can get Password Pro at many shareware sites or by going to
http://cmbsoftware.com/ and downloading it. I think the registration was
only $9.95 (paid it a long time ago, so it might have changed) and in you
want, you can password protect your password file. Then you can call up the
password file and use it to recall your various passwords and user names.

I am sure there are other shareware programs out there that also do the
same thing.

You have to do that yourself, none of us can do that for you no matter how
hard you try.

Unsubscribe instructions should be at the bottom of each letter.

If you followed the instructions and still cannot unsubscribe, you have a

Macs are funny animals (I own a Mac and a PC, so I can say that). Before
you can use a file on a Mac, it needs some "Header Information" on the file.

The header information tells the Mac OS which program is associated with
which file. In the 1980's this was a great idea and made the Mac easier to
use. Today, it is outdated and a minor pain and makes the Mac a little more
difficult to use. The PC and other followers use a different method (file
extensions). The Mac planners do not want to (or cannot) change their file
format to what has become the "standard-of-the-industry", so we are left
with this minor irritation.

In the old days of Apple File Exchange, you needed to use ResEdit or Norton
Utilities to get the header on the file. Now you can use PC Exchange. I am
using OS 7.1.6 and don't know if things have changed so I won't give you
step by step instructions.

But you do need to change the type and creator. Type should read STYL and
the creator should read BB40. Some versions of File Exchange let you choose
Band-in-a-Box instead of BB40.

The good news is that once you figure out how to set up PC Exchange for
these file types, you can forget it (I did) until you get a new computer,
they you will have to figure it out again.

Although I own a Mac, I am not a Mac guru (I prefer the PC) so perhaps
someone else in this group can explain it more thoroughly.

Frustration

Steve Ginn <sginn@...>

Well I sat down with BiaB last night to try and enter in my first piece of
music, hoping to begin the process of building my personal library. And
much to my frustration, I ran into the following problems which I couldn't
seem to find the answer for anywhere in the documentation.

First, I could not find how to put a key change in the middle of the piece
other than forcing all the accidentals to change the piece to the new key
manually which was extremely tedious.

Second, while entering in the melody, I found it very difficult to enter the
melody exactly like it should be. For example in one measure, I could not
enter a dotted quarter followed by an eighth note ... The program persisted
in entering a quarter note tied to a sixteenth note followed by a dotted
eighth, but when you actually played it back in Lead Sheet mode it displayed
the notes as two quarters (figure that one out). Also, I could not find
anywhere in the documentation about how to tie notes together within a
measure so they would be either slurred or held as a single note with the
combined duration.

Finally, the styles have little to be desired with most sounding somewhat
the same except for maybe the rhythm pattern when moving from a swing feel
to a straight ahead rock feel. It was also frustrating when changing a
style to learn that the melody line that I had painstakingly entered had now
been changed into a very mundane resemblance of its original structure.

All in all, very frustrating.

I really want to tough it out with this program because of all the messages
I have read from people on this list that talk about the wonderful things
this program can do. I can also see how this could help speed up the
creation of lead sheets (in conjunction with a real notation program) with
its creation of piano and rhythm sections. But if it is going to actually
create twice as much work in the process, as much as I would like to have my
library available for practicing along with, I think I will pass.

Sincerely,

Steve

Oh, that's easy:

1) They sell your name and email to the spammongers who persist in filling

2) They use the size of their registered user base to attract advertisers
who fill your screen with annoying popup boxes.

PG Music is working on the problem right now. My styles won't fit either.

You can try this. First, make a back up copy of the bbw.lst file. Then open
the original with a text editor, and strip all the entries in the "All"
category. Since the styles are duplicated in the other categories, this
should free the room.

BiaB isn't maxed out with styles, but with style names that can fit in the
style picker window. Removing the "All" category should solve the problem.

If it does not, you can replace the bbw.lst file you edited with the copy
you made.

If it does work, please let us all know.

You need to contact Mike LeVoi, who has a temporary fix to the problem,
which he will build into the next release of Styles Librarian, he said.

BIAB is not maxed out, it is just that the earlier versions had a
smaller limit. PGMusic has expanded that limit with the new version.

You can save it as mid, then use Power Tracks, that way you can not only add your voice, but other instruments also.

Hello. Cannot speak to 9, but you can in 10. However, if it turns out that
you cannot in 9, consider converting the BiaB file to MIDI and inserting the
audio that way.
